Transshipment

When you are in the forwarding business, then often the customers are challenging you with all kinds of (new) solutions. Transshipments is one of these options.

At Wholesale by Vels we are specialized in Transshipments by using Amsterdam Airport as main gateway. Hereby a few examples which are good food for thought:

Machinery from Spain to New Zealand

The machine was build in Spain and could only fit into a freighter aircraft. To move the machine by air was seriously involving a lot of money, but the penalty for the customer not to deliver on time was significantly higher. We moved the machine from Spain to Amsterdam, where we connected the cargo on a flight to Chicago, while our customer is based in the Middle-East. Our partner in the US received the machine and transferred it by truck to Los Angeles, where it was flown to Auckland. The total transit time was approximately 3 days longer versus a fast connection via Asia, which is out of Europe common practice. But, the cost saving was significant and still meeting an on time delivery.

Consolidations from Asia to Africa

There are a huge number of flights from Asia into Europe and especially Amsterdam, but there are not as many flights from Asia into Africa. There are obviously connections via for example the Middle-East, but the freight charges are also pretty high. For one of our customers we have developed a fixed setup to move shipments from different places in Asia into Amsterdam Airport, where we hold the cargo temporarily at our bonded warehouse. Once a week week connect the cargo by operating an own consolidation into Africa. The transit time is approximately 3 to 4 days longer, but the cost reduction is well worth it.
